According to Forbes, about 70% of the working population “hate” their jobs! If true, this calculates to approximately 108,500,000 people, in the USA alone! Clearly one of life’s secrets is to do something you love and are passionate about, and find a way to get paid for it.

Occupational wellness, or vocational wellness, is the result of doing something you at least enjoy, while having the ability to achieve a balance between it and your leisure time. Further, one must deal positively with workplace issues, and building relationships with co-workers.

Since our work and what we do for a living encompasses at least a third of our life, it’s important to search for a “calling” or a “purpose” in our work. Every human being has certain gifts, knowledge, talents and skills, and using what we have helps us to feel good. When people do what they were meant to do, or what they feel they can do well, they deepen their sense of meaning and fulfillment. If course you find yourself a part of the above mentioned 70%, consider doing what you love and enjoy as a hobby or avocation. Your compensation will simply be hours of pleasure, enjoyment, the absence of stress and fulfillment.

There are dozens of things you can do to move in the direction of finding more fulfilling and rewarding life work. But you may have to look for it, like you would search for a hidden treasure. Do not get discouraged, keep looking, and if you find something close, consider doing that while you continue your search. Don’t be afraid to ask questions and talk to people; explore new things, go new places, spend time in nature contemplating. Dream about doing what you love, even if you don’t know what it is yet. Take some classes you are interested in. Take a career/assessment test. In other words, take action. Believe in yourself, your dreams, and your work. When you believe it and think about it, your behavior will move you towards it.
